Arnold Black

Arnold R Black Arnold R Black, 74, of Atlanta, MI, and Clarksville, TN, died on October 18, 2009 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. He was born on December 10, 1934 to Archie and Mary (LaFleur) Black near Johannesburg, MI. After graduation from Johannesburg High School in 1954 he joined the US Army. His entire career was served in airborne assignments, with the majority of his time with the 101st Airborne Division. He served two tours in Vietnam and several years in Germany, retiring in 1975 as a 1st Sergeant. He was awarded two bronze stars during his service. After his service retirement, Arnold worked as maintenance manager at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. He also enjoyed restoring old RV's, cars, and boats. He also loved to fish, hunt, and golf. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his famly. In 1957 Arnold married Emma Lee Jones of Central City, KY. Born to this union, were sons, Michael and Mark. She passed away in 1994. In 1995, Arnold married Dalthea (Double) Black. Arthur is survived by his wife, Dalthea; sons, Michael (Cheryl) Black of Seminole, FL, and Mark (Sandra) Black of Adams, TN; step children, Kim (Mark) McCleary of White Lake, MI, Gregg Black of St Helen, MI, and Steven (Mimi) Black of Peasanton, CA; 14 grandchildren; brothers, Charlie (Janet) Black of Atlanta, MI, and Clarence Black of Rapid River, MI; and sisters, Maxine (Stanley) Koscielniak of Johannesburg, MI, Jean Cooley of Lewiston, MI, and Pat (Ray) Richards of Johannesburg, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Archie Jr, and Rodney. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Green Funeral Home, Lewiston, MI, Pastor Carlo Sgambelluri officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Albert Twp Cemetery immediately following. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Fisher House, Fort Campbell, KY, which provides lodging for families of hospitalized troops, 652 Joel Drive, Ft Campbell, KY, 42223
