Arlene Shankland

Arlene Elizabeth Shankland Arlene Elizabeth Shankland, 90, of Lewiston, MI passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017, at The Brook in Gaylord. She was born on March 8, 1926, to Julius and Cora (Roos) Schmidt in Ann Arbor, MI. She married Glen Joseph Shankland on September 2, 1945 in Ann Arbor. She has lived in Lewiston since 1984, having vacationed there since the 1950's. She retired from Ann Arbor Schools after 20+ years as a secretary. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lewiston and played the organ there for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Lewiston Lioness organization and the Happy Needlers quilting group. Arlene loved music and also enjoyed bowling and making ceramics. She was a proud University of Michigan football fan. Above all else, she will be missed by all who knew her. Arlene is survived by her daughters, Judy (Dick) Horning of Davison, MI, Janet (Francis) Miceli of Lewiston, MI, and Susan (Roger) Miley of Ann Arbor, MI; 7 grandchildren - Lynne, David, Dana, Ryan, Matt, Scott, and Lauren; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Schultz of Ann Arbor, MI; and nephews, Charles and Gary Schultz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Cora; husband, Glen; brother-in-law, David Schultz; and brother Kenneth Schmidt. Funeral services for Mrs. Shankland will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lewiston; Pastor Stephen Thiel officiating. Visitation hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 PM at the church, and again on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service. Interment will take place in the Spring at Albert Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Hospice of Michigan.
