Mr. Aristide “Bud” Attilio Franzoni, age 91 of Atlanta, Michigan died peacefully at his home on August 17, 2024 with family at his side. He was born in Rutland, Vermont to the late Attilio and Mary Ellen (McAndrew) Franzoni on September 9, 1932. He served his country proudly in the United States Army 2nd Division during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart medal. Bud was an officer for the Detroit Police Department and also subsequently retired from the Detroit Chrysler Lynch Rd plant. He retired to Atlanta in 1994 where he has resided for the past 30 years. Bud was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, VFW Post 9489, and the Atlanta Eagles. He was an outdoorsman, an avid hunter and enjoyed the camaraderie of deer camp. His hobbies were yardwork, gardening, camping, golfing, reading vintage western books, country/western/bagpipe music, and creating gifts in stained glass. He was a handyman, always doing household repairs as needed from his workshop. Bud’s love of history took him to visit Arlington National Cemetery and tour many battlefields. This love of travel continued on to the History channel, documentaries, and conservative news.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Grace Marie Franzoni of Atlanta; three children, Bonnie, John (Selena), and Frances Franzoni; eight grandchildren, Dawn, Geno, Justin, Hailey, Andrew, Zachary (Dinitri), Danielle and Tessa; 16 great-grandchildren, Donovann, Attilio, Tiarra, Trulee, Matteo, Jagger, Savannah, Nevaeh, Amayah, Owen, Lilyanna, Isaiah, Aaliyah, Damon, Amaya, and Alexavier; and one great-great grandson, Donovann Jr. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Attilio and Mary Ellen McAndrew; brother, Richard “Dick” (Virginia) Franzoni; sisters, Elizabeth “Betty” Indish and Theresa Franzoni; and twin daughters, Dawn Dudansky and Mary Franzoni. Bud was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Atlanta; Fr. James Siler officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM until time of Mass. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery with military honors on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, Bud had asked that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Wounded Warriors.
