Andrew Kocur

July 3, 1964 — May 14, 2020

Lewiston

On Thursday, May 14th, 2020, Andrew R. Kocur, or “Jay”, loving father of two children, passed away at the age of 55.

Andrew was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 3rd, 1964 to Andrew George and Carol Margaret Huff Kocur. He was very close to his siblings growing up, including his older sister Judith Kocur Mencke and two younger siblings, Richard Kocur and Carol Kocur. Every summer Andrew and his siblings would spend the summer in northern Michigan. As a kid he loved to play ice hockey and spend time with his family and friends. He graduated from John Adams High School in Cleveland, Ohio in 1983.

Andrew spent half his life in Cleveland before relocating to northern Michigan with his family. He started his career at Sherwin Williams in Gaylord, Michigan and worked there for nearly 10 years before health issues led him to retiring.

Andrew enjoyed staying busy, whether it was meticulously cleaning his house, knocking out walls to create a proper man cave, or even building his own Jack Daniel’s inspired bar. Jay loved hunting, cooking, family gatherings, and the simple things in life like going for a ride “just because.” He enjoyed watching football on Sundays and rooting for his favorite team, the Cleveland Browns. Andrew was a man with a great sense of humor, quick to tease and joke around with all. He enjoyed life as best as he could, and his infectious smile and laughter was a testament to this.

Andrew was preceded in death by his father, Andrew George, his mother, Carol Margaret, and his sister Carol Styles. He is survived by his two children, Kimberly Sidley, married to Wade Sidley, and expecting their first child, Jade Sidley on July 3rd, 2020 and Kevin Kocur, married to Cayla Kocur, and their two children, Loki Reed and Lukas Kocur. He is also survived by his sister, Judith Kocur Mencke; his brother Richard Kocur; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews all of whom loved and admired him dearly. Andrew will be deeply missed by his large family and numerous friends.

In accordance with what Andrew would have wanted, he was cremated.  His family has chosen to remember him privately at this time, but a service will be held later for all family and friends.
