Joan Alice Dearstone
Mrs. Joan Alice Dearstone, 71, of Atlanta, Michigan, died peacefully on March 7, 2017 at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord. She was born on August 27, 1945 in Canada to the late, Stuart and Elsie Curran. She married her husband, Keith Dearstone on May 6, 2011 in Leamington, Ontario and together they celebrated five years of marriage before her passing.
Joan worked as a teacher in education, predominately teaching elementary school. She retired from Essex County School Board in Ontario, Canada after working for 30+ years. She was a member of the Federation of Women Teacher's Association of Ontario for many years. In her free time, Joan enjoyed cooking and sewing and was a member of the Thunderbay Quilting Guild. She liked to read romance novels, especially Danielle Steele and Nora Roberts. Her family and grandchildren were important to her and she valued the time spent with them. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband, Keith Dearstone of Atlanta; sons, James (Lorhae Thompson) Meek of Calgary, Alberta, David (Josie) Meek of Leamington, Ontario, and Gord (Ashley) Meek of Penhold, Alberta; daughter, Sherie (Craig) Stephenson of Round Rock, Texas; stepson, Mark (Joy) Dearstone of Waterford; stepdaughter, Jodi (Craig) Parsons of Whitmore Lake; twelve grandchildren; and sister, Doris (Dave Gray) Curran of Blyth, Ontario.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Stuart and Elsie Curran and grandson, Braxton.
As were her wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial was held in celebration of her life on March 10, 2017 at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta. In lieu of flowers the family has suggested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
