Bonnie Lou Valentine-Flynn
Mrs. Bonnie Lou Valentine-Flynn, 66, of Atlanta, MI, passed away on January 27, 2018 of a short illness. She was born on November 8, 1951 to Benjamin and Elsie (Dundas) Valentine in Alpena, Michigan. She married Jeffry Flynn on February 14, 1992 in Lewiston, Michigan.
Bonnie was a proud lifelong resident of Atlanta. She graduated from Atlanta High School in 1969, and attended Big Rock Congregational Church over the years.
She began working at Briley Township in 2000 and was currently serving as the Treasurer. Bonnie had also served as Administrative Assistant, Deputy Clerk, Trustee, Blight Officer, and Zoning Administrator, as well as a board member for the Airport, Ambulance, Fire, and Parks and Recreation, all for Briley Township. She was a member of the Michigan Township Association as well.
As a girl she enjoyed riding horses and was a member of 4-H. She volunteered each year at the fair in Martin Valentine’s Antique Village making apple butter. Bonnie also loved the time she spent helping students learn to read with Mrs. Madagame at Atlanta Community Schools. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and canning. She loved music and playing the guitar. Bonnie always enjoyed spending time with her family, and could often be found painting rocks with her grandsons. She was always giving of herself for her community, and above all else, Bonnie loved all her family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Jeffry of Atlanta, Michigan; daughters, Kristen (Troy) Cheedie of Atlanta, Kayla Flynn of New York City, and Kelly Flynn of Atlanta; grandsons, Gage and Jace; and sister, Betty (Ted) Whitmire of Atlanta.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Elsie; and a brother, William Valentine.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of Bonnie’s life at 4 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018 at the Atlanta Community School Elementary Gymnasium, with visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Ron Larsen and Pastor Roger Steele will be officiating. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, Atlanta. Interment will take place in the spring at Briley Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Flynn family to support Atlanta Sports Boosters, as well as a future flower project and plaque of remembrance near the new dock at Briley Township Park.
